In this article, the evolution of thought about and the current options for ossicular reconstruction are discussed. This is a timely topic, with the increased availability of varied biocompatible ossicular imlants and the renewed interest for more aggressive reconstruction in conductive hearing loss caused by chronic ear disease and congenital defects. Dr. Bojrab reviews the literature from the earliest stages of eardrum reconstruction to put into perspective for our readers the current technique and materials available for ossicular surgery. I hope this will serve as a concise reference in your files on management options of middle ear reconstruction.
