About The Course

The Michigan Ear Institute presents an intensive five day Temporal Bone Dissection Course covering all aspects of otologic and neurotologic surgery and a two day course. Each station is fully equipped with all instruments and personal video monitors provided at no additional charge. Faculty from MEI present daily lectures and personal instruction. A unique feature is the availability of otologic lasers for hands-on training of small fenestra stapedotomy. All instruments, drills, and bones are provided.

Course Objectives

The intensive 5-day course emphasizes temporal bone dissection relevant to the otologic surgeon and resident. Participants will:

  • Review basic and applied anatomy of the temporal bone.
  • Review current concepts in otologic diagnosis.
  • Review current concepts in the surgical management of ear disease.
  • Apply contemporary surgical principles during temporal bone micro dissection.
  • Become familiar with laser techniques in otology.
  • Enhance past surgical skills and have an opportunity to attempt new surgical techniques in the dissection laboratory.
42.5 Credit Hours for the 5-day course: Category I CME by Providence Hospital

CME Accreditation

Providence Hospital and Medical Centers, an organization accredited by the Michigan State Medical Society Committee on CME Accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians, designates that this activity meets the criteria for a maximum of 43.75 credit hours in Category 1 towards the requirements for Michigan relicensure and toward the Physician’s Recognition Award of the AMA, provided it is completed as designated. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Tuition

The registration fees include continental breakfast, refreshments, luncheons, course materials, and use of laboratory equipment.

5-Day Courses
  • Physicians $1500
  • Residents $1200

An administration fee of $200 will be retained on all cancellations. Only one-half of the fee will be returned if the cancellation is made less than two weeks prior to the course, and no refund will be possible after the course begins.

Course Location

The program will be held at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan. The hospital is located at 16001 West Nine Mile Road between Southfield and Greenfield Roads. The program will take place in the Providence Temporal Bone Lab. Ample parking is available in the lot across the street from the Providence Medical Building, just off Providence Drive. A detailed map will be sent with your registration confirmation.

The Laboratory includes seven completely furnished microdissection stations. Each station includes a full set of microsurgical instruments, operating binocular microscope, motorized drill, and a suction-irrigation system. Each station also includes a personal video monitor. Otologic laser systems are available to teach the techniques of laser microsurgery.
